Tomato Thokku Recipe :
Tomato Thokku or Thakkali Thokku is such a quick fix and an all-rounder accompaniment for almost all dishes ranging from simple curd rice to roti. I have already posted a version of tomato thokku with onion which goes well with roti and it is so great for travel. It stays perfect for three days at room temperature too. When refrigerated and handled right this can stay good for three months without preservatives. This recipe of Tomato Thokku is without onions and very easy to make.My step by step images turned out to be a flop, hence I am not adding them today. I shall include them when I make next time.
Tomato Thokku without Onion Recipe:
It is almost summer and it is the season of pickle, ice creams, fryums and a lot more. To begin with here is our most favourite tomato thokku and today’s version is without onions. I just have a spoon more left with me. The entire lot got over in just minutes.
Yields-1.5 cups approx.
- Tomatoes – 10
- Chilly Powder-1 tsp
- Sambhar Powder-1 tsp
- Salt-To taste
- Oil-To cook
To temper:
- Mustard Seeds-1/4 tsp
- Curry leaves-Few
Procedure:
1.Measure all ingredients and keep them ready.
2.Wash the tomatoes well and pat dry them.
3.Steam cook or boil them for 10 minutes to peel their skin away.
4.Cool them and peel the skin.
5.Gently run in a mixer into a smooth paste.
6.In a pressure pan or in a wide bottomed pan add some oil and add the ground paste.
7.You can either let it boil or allow it to steam for 20 minutes in a pressure cooker without the whistle in medium flame
8.It would have lost all the water content by now.Reduce the flame to low, add chilly powder, salt, sambhar powder and give a quick stir.
9.Cook on low flame with occasional stirring until the oil begins to come out.
10.Finally, add the tempering and store in an airtight glass jar when it gets cooled completely.
Adjust spices and oil as per taste.
Avoid salt for babies below one year.
