Whole Wheat Spinach Corn Momos Recipe:

Whole wheat Spinach Corn Momos was our breakfast today and the taste still lingers in my tongue. All of us relished even without the momos chutney Husband makes perfect momos but we wanted to try with homemade whole wheat flour. Yes, we grind red wheat(samba godhumai-not the rava) and use for rotis and even baking. This homemade whole wheat flour is slightly darker in colour and very healthy( with the husk).

The whole wheat momos have a great taste. It is definitely not like the store-bought ones or the ones made with made(frozen). This was my first trial and it was finger-licking good and too tempting. When made healthy this way with whole wheat and fresh stuffings momos can make a healthy breakfast too.

Whole Wheat Spinach Corn Momos Recipe:

Ingredients:

Makes 12-14

  • Whole Wheat Flour-1 cup
  • Salt-To taste
  • Corn Kernels-1/4 cup(Steamed)
  • Garlic-4
  • Spinach Puree/Mash-2 tbsp(Palak is better)
  • Pepper powder-1/2 tsp
  • Chilly powder-1/4 tsp
  • Italian Herbs-1/4 tsp
  • Oil-To cook
  • Water-To Knead dough

Procedure:

1. Measure all ingredients and keep them aside.

2. Make a smooth dough out of whole wheat flour. Allow it to rest for 30 minutes.

3. In a pan add some oil and add crushed garlic, chopped onions and corn kernels.

4. Add all spice powders and salt and mix well.

5. Now add the spinach mash and give a quick stir (until the water content is gone).

6. Roll the dough into small balls and flatten it into thin circular rotis (Cut with a sharp Lid).

7. Hold the flattened dough in your palm and place the spinach corn mixture as shown in the below picture. (Lower your Middle & Ring Finger)

8. Now close it and press the ends to form a semi-circular shape. Bring together both the ends of this. The basic Momos shape is ready. The Video link is given below for folding techniques.

9. Repeat the same for the remaining dough and mixture.

10.Steam cook in medium flame for 10-15 minutes (6 momos at a time on the plate of steamer/idly pot).

11. Spinach Corn Momos is ready to be relished.

12. Serve them hot

P.S:

Make the roti as thin as possible. The thicker you make the harder it will become, as time passes by.

Adjust the spices based on your taste.

The spinach+corn mixture should be dry.
