Aval Ven Pongal Recipe:
I found this recipe in clicknbites website of my friend and have been waiting to try.
Ingredients:
- Sigappu Aval/Red Poha/RedRice Flakes – 1 cup
- Cooked & Mashed Moong Dal – 1/2 cup
- Salt – to taste
To Temper:
- Pepper – 5-6
- Cumin Seeds – 1/2 tsp
- Cashews – Handful
- Curry Leaves – A spring
- Ghee – 3-4 tbsp
Procedure:
1. Measure and keep the ingredients ready.
2. Clean the rice flakes and wash it for 3 times. Thick flakes might need soaking for 5 minutes in hot water.
3.Heat a pan and add 1 tbsp ghee. Temper with cumin seeds ,pepper and curry leaves.
4.Now add the mashed cooker dhal with half cup water. When it boils add the rice flakes and salt.
5. Add a tbsp of ghee and give it a mix.
6. Finally, add ghee roasted cashews and serve it hot.
7. Aval Ven Pongal is ready.
P.S:
The amount of water depends on the type of flakes you use.
Ensure not to totally mash the flakes.
