Rava Idli Recipe
After my trial with rava uthappam here you go with rava idli recipe which has become a super hit and loved by my father in law too. This recipe of rava idli is kind of my long term dream. The rava idli recipe was one of the recipes which my readers were frequently reminding me to try and come out with a version without raising agents.
Rava Idli Recipe
The recipe is super simple and doesn’t need any preparation. You might require a maximum of 5+5 minutes. You may also find resemblance with my wheat rava idly
Rava Idli Recipe
Ingredients: Makes 6-8
- Rava/ Sooji – 1 cup
- Curd-3/4 cup
- Grated Carrots-2
- Gram Dhal-1/2 tsp
- Mustard seeds-1/4 tsp
- Urad Dhal-1/4 tsp
- Ghee or Oil-1 tbsp
- Curry leaves-A spring
- Turmeric Powder-A pinch
- Salt-To taste
Procedure:
1.The previous night, add the rava to curd and mix without lumps.
2.Keep it closed in a warm place.
3.The next morning or after 6-8 hours you would find the mixed rava slightly raised and fermented. Add half a cup of water and salt.
4.In a pan temper, the tempering elements and slightly fry the carrots
5. Add this to the batter and mix well.
6. Grease the plates of idly with oil and pour the batter with oil.
7.Steam cook for 10 minutes and rava idlies are ready.
8.Serve with coconut chutney.
Notes:
If you making the same day within 30 minutes add 1/4 tsp of baking soda plus 1 tsp lemon juice.
The batter would rise if the atmospheric temperature is slightly warm and the curd is sour.
You could soak the rava overnight and make the rava idly in the morning.
I would recommend a very rare usage of sooji.

Yes it is soft. Rava is from wheat
